My Journey to
Becoming
If you can pay more so someone else can experience my courses, I'd be very grateful
Ten years, and a thesis defence in Budapest
In September 2026 I'll defend my thesis, The Misunderstood Child and the Healing Adult, at the Pikler Institute in Budapest. That milestone is the reason for this evening, but it isn't really what the evening is about.
What I actually want to talk about is the journey. What I've learnt, and unlearnt. The resources that helped it click for me, and the ones that didn't. How I've fallen in and out of love with Pikler at different points along the way, because ten years of anything is never a straight line.
Partway through, I discovered my own developmental trauma, and that changed the shape of the learning completely. It's one thing to study Pikler's work. It's another to recognise the hurt you're carrying inside it, and to see how that hurt had shaped the way you showed up for others, sometimes in ways that caused harm you didn't recognise at the time.
This is the part I want to be honest about on the night. Taking self-responsibility for my own journey, my own learning, and for the people I've hurt along the way without knowing it. That's the real work Pikler asked of me, from the inside out.
What is a Pikler Pedagogue?
It's a title very few people outside the field have ever heard of, and one held by only a small number of practitioners worldwide. You can see the current list on the Pikler Institute's own page. On this night I want to open up what that title actually means and what the training asks of you, and be honest about the fact that somewhere along this journey, receiving it stopped being the point for me.
What we'll spend the evening on
Falling in and out of love
The honest shape of ten years, including the parts where Pikler's work felt hard to hold, and the resources that helped me find my way back.
My own trauma
How discovering my own developmental trauma partway through added a whole new layer to the learning, and to the healing.
Taking responsibility
The people I've hurt along the way without recognising it, and what it's meant to own that honestly, from the inside out.
Conversation
Space for your questions, in a small, intimate room, invite only, word of mouth, twenty seats.
Pay what you can
There's no set price for this evening. It's offered as koha, pay what feels right for you. Once the room hire is covered, whatever remains goes toward discounting my Saturday and Sunday events for people I know who need the extra financial support.
If what you can give sits below the suggested koha, no need to worry, just message me. Cost should never be what stops you coming. And if you're able to pay a little more so someone else can experience my courses, I'd be very grateful.
This is one small step in finding my own kaupapa, how I want to work, and what my business stands for as I keep building it, one honest step at a time.
