Short Self Approval Statements
A small, honest phrase that gives you a moment of safety before deeper work
A short self approval statement is a brief, believable phrase you offer yourself in the moment. It is not meant to reprogram a wound on its own. It is a quick grounding tool, a way to pause, notice what is happening in you, and give yourself a small sense of safety before moving into deeper work.
InsideOUT Framework
Bridging Step 3 to Step 2
Nervous System Regulation into Healing Core Wounds
This technique lives in Step 3, Nervous System Regulation, as a way to settle your body first. It then acts as a bridge into Step 2, Healing Core Wounds, where the fuller autosuggestion process helps a wound lose its emotional charge.
Why A Short Statement, Not A Deep One
Affirmations can backfire when they are repeated without feeling behind them. If a phrase is too big or too far from what you actually believe right now, your subconscious tends to answer back with the opposite, a quiet no, you are not. A brief, believable phrase avoids that trap because it stays close to what is true for you in this exact moment.
This is not the deep reprogramming step. It is the small, honest pause that makes the deeper work possible.
Why It Helps
It gives you immediate self soothing
When the not enough or helpless wound spikes, your activation can climb to an 8, 9, or 10. A small, true statement gives you a rapid, tangible way to acknowledge the feeling rather than push it away, and this alone can bring your activation down a few points.
It builds a bridge to deeper calm
Deeper reprogramming works best in a calm, receptive state. A short affirmation, used after something like box breathing, signals to yourself that you are safe enough to stay present. From that calmer window, you can move into the fuller process of proof and feeling.
It creates space to notice the story
Once activation drops even slightly, you have room to notice the story your mind is telling, name the unmet need underneath it, and choose whether to keep going with deeper work.
The Practice
|
1
|
Find a brief calm. Take 3 to 4 slow breaths, or a quick round of box breathing |
|
2
|
State a believable statement. Keep it small, specific, and true to this exact moment, such as I cooked dinner with care, or I tried my best even though I am tired |
|
3
|
Notice the tiny lift. Look for any softening in your chest, or a slight release of tension |
|
4
|
Move to deeper work if you are ready. Once your activation feels like it has dropped to around a 5 or lower, you can continue into the fuller process, gathering a piece of proof, letting the feeling connected to it surface, and repeating the statement in that calmer state |
This short affirmation is not meant to rewire the wound by itself. It is a quick way to pause, self soothe, and create the calm window that makes the deeper, emotion led work possible. Use it as the first step, then move into the fuller technique once you have the space for it.
